"I have worked in this school for 20 years and nothing has been anywhere near as good as this in bringing multi-sensory stimulation to our children" – Teacher, Sir David Brand School
Sensorium Theatre is Australia’s only company making live shows specifically designed for young audiences with disabilities. Our aim is to improve the lives of young people with special needs by sparking their imaginations. Based in Western Australia, we have enchanted thousands of young people with special needs with the magic of live theatre since forming in 2010. A highlight for the company and a landmark for access was the presentation of our show Oddysea at the Sydney Opera House and the Arts Centre Melbourne in 2015. In 2016 we toured Oddysea throughout regional WA and The Jub Jub Tree across metropolitan Perth. In 2017 we completed a national tour of Oddysea to 8 different cities and towns across Australia. We also worked on our new show Whoosh! – a fly-your-own spaceship adventure. In 2018, we'll be sharing our work at the Lincoln Center New York as part of The Big Umbrella Festival - for audiences with autism.
We work with all sorts of children with disabilities - including children on the autism spectrum and those with profound and multiple learning disabilities who may have limited movement and/or sensory impairment and complex communication needs.
Our shows and programs are developed in collaboration with our target audience which ensures that they are tailored to our audiences’ specific needs. Our delivery model enhances this experience with pre-show and post-show “embedding” workshops and resources to maximize their understanding and enjoyment. Click here for information about Our Impact
